SYAR'I RULES IN MOVIES

The Islamic mission (dakwah) plays an important role in the religious life. In the teachings of Islam, preaching is an obligation imposed by a religion to its followers. According to the rules of fiqhiyah “mâ lâ yatimmul wâjibu illâ bihi fahuwa wâjib”, then a movie as a means of dakwah is a duty. However,  it is not considered a sin if Muslims do not preach through movies. Movie is just one of many ways to preach.

This research is focused on the study of Islamic movies in Indonesia. Up till now some researches on movies tends to confine  the side of semiotics, the messages (social, cultural, political, and religious), and the structures. There aren't any researches that discuss movies from the review of syar'i’s.

A movie that contained messages has been started since 1959. But its  journey did not as interesting as other commercial movies. The movies of this category began to bloom again since it lifted the Ayat-Ayat Cinta novel to the big screen. The film makers also make a similar film as a race.

This research is considered important, because: First, Islam is often negatively portrayed  on Western movies. Secondly, there is a percentage of Muslims that they can only be touched by the movie because they are allergic to the study. Third, sometimes a movie is able to provide a deeper understanding than propaganda through lectures. Fourth, there are some movies that are considered un-Islamic movie but it turned out to discredit Islam.

This research is wanted to answer the questions: (1) What aspects is considered to make  Islamic movies? (2) are the movies which  are labeled as  Islamic movies meets the criteria of Islamic Shariah? (3) What movies are awarded as Islamic movies but found it insulting Islam?

The Research is carried out on nine Islamic movies in Indonesia. The nine movies were chosen because it produced and distributed by nine different producers and distributors. By making nine movies are expected to represent the entire genre movies of religion in Indonesia.

In this research was found that (1) There are many things that must be considered in making Islamic movies. (2) Not all the movies that get the label of Islamic movie meets the criteria Islamic shariah. (3) The movies that get labeled Islamic movie but insulting Islam are 3 Do’a 3 Cinta (3 Prayer 3 Love) and Perempuan Berkalung Sorban (Women with a Turbans).
